What type of aircraft do you fly?

We fly the Cessna 185 Floatplane. It has 4 passenger seats and one pilot. They have been manufactured from 1961 to 1985 and are a tried and true floatplane, used worldwide. Our aircraft is on Wipline 4000 Amphibious Floats, giving us the ability to operate anywhere, land or sea!

How many people can go on a tour?

4 passengers can be accommodated on any one tour.

Can I bring my own camera?

Absolutely! We encourage photos and video recording and sharing! Our aircraft has a GoPro mounted to it and we are constantly trying to get the next great shot of our adventures and want to help you get that perfect shot as well! Please feel free to share your photos with us. We may even put them in our gallery (coming soon).

What should I wear?

Whatever you are comfortable in! It is in the 80's-90's year round in St Thomas and our aircraft are NOT air-conditioned.

Can I bring a bag with me?

Yes, however we recommend a dry bag. We do not expect our guests to get wet. However, this excursion includes a boat ride and a transfer to a seaplane. There is water all around and Flying Fish Aviation LLC. will not be held liable if you drop, throw, or otherwise intentionally or unintentionally cause you or your belongings to end up in the water or wet.

Is tipping allowed?

If you are satisfied with the service we provide and would like to express your satisfaction or gratitude to your boat and flight crew tipping would definitely be appreciated. Tips are typically pooled and split between flight and boat crew. The tipping etiquette in the USVI is the same as it is in the mainland USA, 10%-20% of the cost, depending on level of service.

If I book ahead of time, but can't make it, can I get a refund?

Refunds will be considered in the event of family emergency, cruise line schedule change, or other events out of your control.

Will drinks or snacks be served?

We have complimentary ice water onboard our boat.

Are there any passenger weight or size restrictions?

Yes, passengers are limited to individual weights of 250 pounds or less with a total group weight limited to 675 pounds including bags.

How big is the cabin and seats?

The cabin's interior dimension is roughly 3.4 feet wide and 3.6 feet high, with 4 passenger seats, one of which is the front co-pilot seat. The pilot will determine the seating arrangement to ensure aircraft loading is within the manufacturer's weight and balance limitations. The pilot will, however, do everything possible to help make sure any special seating requests are met.

Will I get a window seat?

Yes, everyone gets a window seat!

Is it safe?

Absolutely! Our safety record can be checked at FAA.gov

What if there is bad weather, will I get a refund?

Yes. You will get a full refund in the event that we have to cancel due to weather.

How bad does the weather have to be to cancel?

Flying Fish Aviation will not operate if the visibility is determined to be less than 3 miles in flight, if the ceiling is less than 1,000 MSL, or if the water conditions are determined to be too rough by the pilot and the General Manager.

Will I get motion sick?

Hopefully not! If you are prone to motion sickness you may wish to take precautions. This is an adventure excursion in which participants will spend all their time on the water or in the air in constant motion. We do have motion sickness bags on both the boat and aircraft.

Can I pay with cash or credit when I get there?

Absolutely. We take US cash, and major credit and debit cards.

Where are you located?

We operate out of the Charlotte Amalie Harbor. We pick up and drop off our guests from the seawall across the street from the Vendor's Square, next to the water taxi pick up, and the United States Coast Guard at King's Point. If you find yourself at the Seaborne Seaplane Base, you are too far west. Walk down the seawall to the east.
